The first question that potential clients ask me is “can you help us get a grant?”.
My best advice for any nonprofit organization looking to WIN is to:
- First create a fund raising plan based on your organizational budget and/or strategic plan and use that as a guideline. This document will aid your board members and staff in playing a distinctive role in your fund raising. It will also create a collective effort in fund raising for specific needs. Here is a good resource for getting started on that fund raising plan or enhancing a current one.
- Establish a friend raising committee with people who are trained to identify friends of the organization along with their ability to donate. Sophisticated donors and foundations are now inquiring about the board’s individual given, so please ensure that 100% of your board members are donating before approaching other friends of the organization.
- Create an outline of the needs statement or event a first draft on the programs that you are raising funds for. This information is useful, especially when hiring an outsider who does not have the inside knowledge as the staff or board members.
- Explore other ways that your agency can bring in revenue.
Much success with your fund raising in 2018.
